Quebradillas was founded by Felipe Ruiz on September 6, 1823. The name “Quebradillas” comes from the numerous small rivers and brooks that run through the city. The city’s nickname, “La Guarida del Pirata,” which translates to “The Pirate’s Hideout,” is a nod to its history of pirate activity in the 19th century.
