Adjuntas is a small mountain town located in the central mountains of Puerto Rico, specifically in the mid-west of the island. It is part of the Cordillera Central, Puerto Rico’s main mountain range. As of the 2020 Census, the population of Adjuntas was approximately 17,363. The population has been decreasing over the years due to migration to other parts of Puerto Rico and the mainland United States. The majority of the residents are of Hispanic descent, with Spanish being the primary language spoken at home.

🏛️ History

Adjuntas was founded on August 11, 1815, by Diego Maldonado. Its name comes from the Spanish word “juntas,” which means “together,” referring to the union of two rivers in the area. The town’s economy was initially based on coffee and tobacco farming. Over the years, it has evolved to include a mix of agriculture, small businesses, and light manufacturing.

Adjuntas is known for its beautiful natural environment. The city is home to the Guilarte Forest Reserve, a popular destination for hiking and bird watching.
