🏛️ History
Brewer was first settled by Europeans in the late 18th century. It was originally part of the town of Orrington, but was incorporated as a separate town in 1812. The city was named after its first settler, Colonel John Brewer. Brewer grew rapidly in the 19th century due to its location on the Penobscot River, which made it a hub for shipping and shipbuilding. In 1950, Brewer was incorporated as a city.
