The Piscataquog River, a tributary of the Merrimack River, runs through the town. Weare is approximately 70 miles north of Boston, Massachusetts, and 20 miles west of Manchester, New Hampshire.

Weare was first settled in 1735 and was incorporated as a town in 1764. It was named after Meshech Weare, a prominent figure during the American Revolutionary War and the first governor of New Hampshire.
